Beijing: Chen Long returned to Qingdao’s lineup after a one-game absence as he spearheaded his team to a 3-2 win against the Jiangsu team in the 10th leg of China Badminton Super League (CBSL) tie that was held on Thursday.
The Rio Olympic champion Chen Long looked to hold the upper hand when he confronted Shi Yuqi who defeated him earlier in the season. Chen played aggressively to neutralize Shi Yuqi 21-11 in the first set.
Both Chen and Shi were fighting stroke for stroke in the second set, after leading at 17-16, Chen reeled off 4 consecutive points to beat Shi 21-16 in 53 minutes.
Prior to Chen Long’s match, Qingdao was trailing 0-1 when Qiu Zihan/Guo Yuchen were beaten by Jiangsu’s Cai Ruiqing/Song Ziwei 21-18,18-21,14-21.
In the women’s doubles match, former World No. 1 pair Luo Ying/Luo Yu edged past Jiangsu’s Cheng Shu/Xia Yuting 21-12, 21-17 to give Qingdao a 2-1 advantage.
However, Jiangsu’s women’s singles shuttler Gao Fangjie brought the Jiangsu back into the contest by outclassing Qingdao’s Hui Xirui to even the overall score at 2-2.
With the win depending on the outcome of the fifth game, Zhang Nan/Luo Yu of Qingdao produced the goods to charge their way to a straight-game victory by bringing down the curtains with a 21-18, 21-13 win over Cai Ruiqing/Dong Yirong of Jiangsu.
Despite Lin Dan’s hard-fought victory over Qiao Bin, his Guangzhou team was destroyed by Guangdong 1-4 in other tie that was held on Thursday.
