Kuala Lumpur: The recently completed Badminton Academy of Malaysia was outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, providing the best possible training environment for Malaysian shuttlers.
Speaking to Malaysian media, World No. 1 men’s singles player Lee Chong Wei expressed his appreciation to the Malaysian government for building such a world class quality facility.
“It has everything in place to help shuttlers to train and to perform at their full potential,” said Lee.
“Prior to this facility, our players sometimes have to jostle for courts, but this new academy has enough court for everyone and even younger players from Bukit Jalil Sports School can train here,” added Lee.
Lee hoped Malaysia’s younger shuttlers are highly motivated to do well especially they have the chance to train and practice in the incredibly inspiring academy.
“I am excited to be able to enjoy the equipment here before I retire. Players and coaches are also happy with the new facilities,” said Lee.
The new seven-storey academy has total of 18 badminton courts, 85 rooms, a dining hall, an auditorium, a gymnasium, office, car park, and hostel. It is considered as one of the best training facilities in the world.
According to Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) acting president Tan Sri Mohamed Al Amin Abdul Majid, BAM has yet to give the new academy an official name.
“It’s up to the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Stadium Corporation of Malaysia to name this facility. For now, we just call it Badminton Academy of Malaysia,” said Majid.
