Jakarta: Malaysia has guaranteed a place in the Indonesia Masters final as two Malaysian pairs are set to face off in the semifinals on Saturday.

The match will see a “brotherly battle” between former world champions Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik and their fellow Malaysians, Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun.

Highlights of Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik vs. Kang Min Hyuk/Kim Won Ho in 2025 Indonesia Masters quarterfinals:

Earlier Friday, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, ranked 5th globally, secured their semifinal berth by defeating South Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk/Kim Won Ho in straight sets, 21-19, 21-15, in a 41-minute quarterfinal at the Istora Senayan, Jakarta. This marks their second consecutive semifinal appearance after a similar achievement at the India Open last week.

Meanwhile, Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun earned their second semifinal spot of the season by overcoming compatriots Wan Arif Wan Junaidi/Yap Roy King with a 21-16, 21-16 win. The world’s 13th-ranked duo had previously reached the semifinals at the Malaysia Open earlier this month but were eliminated in the first round at the India Open.

However, mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron/Cheng Su Yin fell short in a closely contested three-set match against Indonesia’s Rinov Rivaldy/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati, losing 23-21, 11-21, 19-21, while Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei lost to Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Supissara Paewsampran 21-18, 20-22, 18-21.

Malaysia’s world number four pair Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jamie Lai also fell to Japan’s 12th-ranked Hiroki Midorikawa/Natsu Saito in straight sets, 15-21, 9-21.

Women’s doubles pair Go Pei Kee/Teoh Mei Xing also faced defeat against China’s Jia Yi Fan/Zhang Shu Xian, 5-21, 13-21.

Another Malaysian women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan/Muralitharan Thinaah kept their hopes alive for a maiden title this season by advancing to the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters. They defeated Japan’s Yuki Fukushima/Mayu Matsumoto 21-16, 21-15 in their quarterfinal clash. This victory marks a repeat of their triumph over Fukushima-Matsumoto during the semifinals of the India Open last week.

Despite their strong performance in New Delhi, Pearly Tan/Muralitharan Thinaah missed the chance to secure a title after losing to South Korea’s Kim Hye Jeong-Kong Hee Yong in the final. Nevertheless, their back-to-back semifinal appearances signal a strong comeback after a disappointing start to the season, which included a first-round exit at the Malaysia Open.

In their semifinal match tomorrow, Pearly Tan/Muralitharan Thinaah will face the winner of the clash between South Korea’s Lee Yeon Woo/Lee Yu Lim.
