Bangkok: Malaysia’s men’s doubles pair of Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing exited the Thailand Master 2025 after a tough loss in the second round on Thursday.
The defeat of the 2024 World Junior Champions was also the end of Malaysia’s streak in the tournament, a BWF Super 300 tournament with a total prize pool of $240,000 (RM 1.05 million).
Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing vs. Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Daniel Marthin in the Thailand Masters second round:
Their opponents were not easy in the slightest: the No. 2 seeded, world No. 24 Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Daniel Marthin from Indonesia. However, Tai and Xing put up a strong bout, stunning their opponents with a 21-19 win in the first set. However, they fell short in the next two sets 16-21, 14-21, unable to maintain their momentum.
Malaysia didn’t do the greatest across all events this tournament, and this day had eliminated all of their teams.
Men’s Singles: Former BAM payer Jacky Kok struggled against Jeon Hyeok Jin of South Korea, losing 13-21, 18-21.
Men’s Doubles: Olympic silver medalist Goh V Shem (newly partnered with South Korea’s Choi Sol Gyu) fell against Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana, 11-21, 18-21.
Women’s Doubles: One of the last standing representatives of Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting, suffered a 17-21, 21-23 defeat to Taiwan’s Lin Xiao Min and Wang Yu Qiao.
Mixed Doubles: The last mixed doubles pair of Loo Bing Kun and Ho Lo Ee lost to Indonesia’s Adnan Maulana and Indah Cahya Sari Jamil in a back-and-forth match 7-21, 21-18, 14-21
Looking past Malaysia’s lost campaign at the 2025 Thailand Masters, Malaysian players will aim to bounce back stronger at other international badminton tournaments.
