
Shenzhen: The 2024 “Lin Dan Cup” Shenzhen Badminton Open concluded last Sunday at Bao’an Stadium in Shenzhen, China, where Malaysia’s Cheam June Wei won the men’s singles title and the prize money of approximately USD $27.5K.
The organizer of the Lin Dan Cup, two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan, shared his thoughts on the event and his vision for the tournament, particularly expressing his hope for Japanese badminton star Kento Momota to participate in the remaining four Lin Dan Cup tournaments in 2024.
Lin Dan stated that the standard of the Lin Dan Cup will continue to rise, along with substantial prize money.
“We just saw a young Malaysian player (Cheam June Wei) win the men’s singles title, and the men’s singles champion of the Lin Dan Cup receives a prize of 200,000 RMB (approximately USD $27.5k). This year, we aim to hold the tournament in five locations,” said Lin, praising the level of competition and the performance of the participants.
Regarding the future of the Lin Dan Cup, “Super Dan” has a clear vision. He hopes that the Lin Dan Cup can become an international event, providing a strong competitive circuit for players who still have dreams in the sport of badminton.
“We organize such competitions to offer a better platform for those who still have badminton dreams and aspirations,” explained Lin Dan.
When discussing the invitation of Kento Momota to the Lin Dan Cup, Lin Dan revealed that he plans to invite the Japanese badminton star to the remaining four editions of the event. He stated, “In the next four editions, there are many Kento Momota fans in China. I hope he can come to China to participate in the Lin Dan Cup, allowing more fans to see him compete.”
