Shenzhen: The World No. 60 Cheam June Wei of Malaysia won the men’s singles title at the Lin Dan Cup and walked away with 200,000 yuan (approximately USD $27,500) in prize money on Sunday.

The total prize money for the 2024 “Lin Dan Cup” Shenzhen Badminton Open has reached a total of 427,000 yuan (approximately USD $60,000), a significant increase from previous years, with the men’s singles champion’s prize money reaching as high as 200,000 yuan.

Not only that, but the lineup of participating players in this tournament was extremely strong, including former World No. 1 Son Wan-Ho of Korea, as well as former Korean national team players such as Lee Dong-Keun, and Heo Kwang-Hee.

As for Cheam, he fought his way through the final and successfully defeated Ren Chengming, the former men’s singles player of the China National Youth Team 22-20, 21-14 to win the Lin Dan Cup, Shenzhen edition.

As the founder of the tournament, two-time Olympic gold medalist Lin Dan was also present at the event and presented the championship trophy to Cheam.

After the match, Cheam shared photos of his victory on social media, including group photos with Lin Dan, Son Wan-ho, Lee Dong-keun, and others.

He wrote, “Grateful. I have turned into a little badminton fan, very fortunate to be able to play and dine with my childhood idols and seniors. Will continue to work hard!”
