KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian badminton player Mohd Haikal Nazri has personally apologized to national men’s doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi following a misunderstanding related to his withdrawal from the Swiss Open two weeks ago.

The situation, which initially created tension between the coach and the young badminton player, has now been resolved after Haikal met Herry in person to discuss the matter and clear the misunderstanding.

Personal Apology Clears the Air

According to Herry Iman Pierngadi, Haikal approached him a few days ago to apologize and explain his decision to withdraw from the Swiss Open. The coach admitted he was initially unhappy with the decision but chose to move on after the player apologized directly.

Herry said he does not believe in holding grudges and understands that young badminton players may sometimes make mistakes. After their discussion, both sides agreed to move forward and focus on training and future tournaments.

He emphasized that everyone deserves a second chance and that the issue should not continue to affect the player’s focus or development.

Commitment and Discipline Still Important

Although the issue has been resolved, Herry stressed that an apology must be followed by action. He reminded Haikal that commitment, discipline, and focus are extremely important for any professional badminton player competing at the international level.

He also joked that promises should be written down like a formal agreement so they cannot be forgotten, but at the same time, he made it clear that professionalism and discipline are key expectations for players in the national badminton program.

Swiss Open Withdrawal Started the Issue

The misunderstanding began after the All England tournament when Haikal reported an ankle injury and felt he was not in the best condition to compete at the Swiss Open in Basel.

However, coach Herry believed that Haikal and his partner Choong Hon Jian were still capable of competing in the tournament. Due to the difference in opinion, Haikal was asked to manage the withdrawal process himself with team management.

After the incident, both the coach and player held discussions and eventually resolved the issue, restoring their professional relationship.

Focus Returns to Upcoming Badminton Tournaments

With the issue now settled, Mohd Haikal is expected to return his full focus to training and upcoming badminton tournaments as he continues developing his career.

The resolution is seen as a positive step for both the player and the national team as they prepare for upcoming international competitions.
