Macau: Malaysia’s independent men’s doubles pairs – Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn/Tan Wee Kiong, along with Bryan Jeremy Goonting/M Fazriq Mohamad Razif, have advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Macau Open.

In the men’s doubles second round, the independent pair Azriyn/Tan faced Indonesia’s 8th seeds, Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin. After a 48-minute tough battle, the Malaysian duo ultimately secured victory with scores of 21-18, 14-21, and 21-11.
During the match, Azriyn/Tan were often behind in the first set, trailing 12-15 at one point. However, they managed to reel off five consecutive points to take the lead and held on to win the first set 21-18. The Indonesian pair came back strong in the second set, maintaining the lead throughout and leveling the match 21-14.
In the deciding set, both sides fought hard at the start. After trailing 7-8 in the decider, the Malaysian pair went on an impressive 10-0 run, opening a 17-8 gap, and the Indonesians couldn’t recover, eventually losing 11-21.
Azriyn/Tan will face Thailand’s 3rd-seeded pair, Peeratchai Sukphun/Pakkapon Teeraratsakul, in the quarterfinals. The Thai duo defeated China’s Sun Wenjun and Zhu Yijun 21-18, 21-19.
Additionally, Malaysia’s young men’s doubles pair, Bryan Jeremy Goonting/M Fazriq Mohamad Razif, won their all-Malaysian clash, defeating Goh Boon Zhe/Wong Vin Sean 21-17, 21-17 to advance to the quarterfinals, where they will meet Taiwan’s Lee Fang Chih and Lee Fang Jen brothers.
