Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s rising badminton stars, Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing, the 2024 World Junior Champions, have secured their spot in the second round of the Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters 2025. The duo delivered a strong performance, defeating the home pair Pongsakorn Thongkham/Wongsathorn Thongkham in straight sets.

The match, held at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok, saw the Malaysian pair dominate with a 21-16, 21-18 victory in just 31 minutes. Their next challenge will be against Indonesia’s Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Daniel Marthin, who also advanced after defeating India’s K. Viraj and K. Viplav with a convincing 21-10, 21-13 win.
In another exciting development, Malaysia’s professional player Goh V Shem, partnering with South Korea’s Choi Sol Gyu, also progressed to the second round. The pair overcame fellow Malaysians Goh Boon Zhe and Wong Vin Sean with a 21-16, 21-18 victory. They are now set to face Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana, who advanced after defeating Malaysia’s Chia Wei Jie and Lwi Sheng Hao 21-15, 21-12.
On the women’s side, Malaysia’s young duo Ong Xin Tee and Carmen Ting made a promising start, defeating India’s S. Kavipriya and S. Simran 21-17, 21-14. Their next match will be against the winners of the clash between Taiwan’s Lin Xiao Min and Wang Yu Qiao and Thailand’s Natchananpon Roongpiboonsopit and Sirada Roongpiboonsopit.
However, it wasn’t all good news for Malaysia. The men’s professional pair Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Chong faced an early exit after losing to Thailand’s Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn and Worrapol Thongsa Nga 21-17, 21-19.
