Bangkok: Kok Jing Hong secured his spot in the men’s singles round of 16 at the Thailand Masters, but Cheam June Wei’s campaign ended early after a first-round exit.

Highlights of Kok Jing Hong vs. Ayush Shetty in the 2025 Thailand Masters first round:

Kok, who progressed from the qualifiers, continued his strong run by defeating India’s Ayush Shetty 21-15, 21-17 in the opening round. His next challenge will be South Korean Jeon Hyeok Jin in the round of 16.

However, it was a disappointing outing for Cheam, who started strong but ultimately fell 21-15, 15-21, 19-21 to India’s S.Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian. With Cheam’s exit, Malaysia now has two representatives in the men’s singles last 16.

Malaysia’s Strong Showing in Thailand Masters
In addition to Kok, Sholeh Aidil also booked his place in the second round, comfortably defeating India’s Mithun Manjunath 21-14, 21-13. He will now face China’s Wang Zhengxing in the last 16.

In the women’s singles category, Selvaduray Kisona fought back from a set down to defeat India’s Tanya Hemanth 15-21, 21-11, 21-13, securing her place in the round of 16.

Kisona will take on Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia next.

With multiple Malaysian players advancing in both singles and doubles events, the Thailand Masters continues to be a key tournament for Malaysia’s badminton players to gain momentum on the international stage.
