Kuala Lumpur: Lee Zii Jia’s pursuit of the 2024 Olympic gold medal kicks off Sunday night as he and his team head to Paris.

The World No. 7 men’s singles player arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 7:30 PM and is scheduled to depart at 9:45 PM via Singapore Airlines.

The former All England champion is accompanied by his manager and sister, Lee Zii Yii; coach, Wong Tat Meng; fitness coach, Lim Joe Heang; physiotherapist, Rayvadee Rattanakthada; and training partner, Lee Shun Yang.

However, Lee Zii Jia remained silent, refusing interviews from the media in KLIA.

It is understood that only Lee Zii Jia and Wong Tat Meng will stay at the athlete’s village in the Seine-Saint-Denis district outside Paris, as only they have received permission from the organizer.

In Paris, Lee Zii Jia is drawn into Group G with Spain’s Pablo Abian and Sri Lanka’s Viren Nettasinghe.

Previously, Lee Zii Jia openly set a target to bring home gold from Paris.

The Paris Olympics mark Lee Zii Jia’s second appearance at the world’s largest sporting event after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, held three years ago.

At that time, he bowed out in the quarter-finals after losing to China’s Chen Long 14-21, 21-9, 14-21.
