Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia will enter the 2025 All England Badminton Championships with an unprecedented show of strength, as seven men’s doubles pairs have qualified for the prestigious event, taking place from March 11 to 16 in Birmingham, England.
This marks one of Malaysia’s largest-ever contingents in the men’s doubles category, significantly boosting the nation’s chances of ending an 18-year title drought in the event. The last Malaysian pair to win the All England men’s doubles title was Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong in 2007.
A Strong Malaysian Presence in Birmingham
National men’s doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi believes having so many Malaysian representatives is a major advantage.
**”With seven Malaysian pairs competing at the All England this time, it’s a significant number that will definitely help the players be more prepared.
Having a strong presence will allow them to strategize better against other top nations,”** Herry said after a training session at the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Academy.

Coaching Challenges and Title Prospects
Despite this strong lineup, Herry will not be traveling to Birmingham due to visa issues. Instead, assistant coach Muhammad Miftakh will take over coaching duties for the Malaysian squad.
When asked about Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik’s chances, Herry remains optimistic but admits they are still adjusting to a new training system.
“The opportunity is always there, but I feel their preparations are not yet at the highest level. Aaron and Wooi Yik are still adapting to my training programs,” he noted.
The duo’s best All England results to date are two runner-up finishes, in 2019 and 2024. With a strong Malaysian presence and multiple title contenders, can Malaysia finally reclaim the All England men’s doubles crown in 2025? Stay tuned for all the latest updates! 🔥🏸
